The 2026-27 Senior Women’s T20 Trophy begins on Monday, October 26, with 37 teams competing in the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s domestic women’s T20 tournament. The competition is scheduled to run until November 20, with teams divided between the Elite and Plate divisions and a Super League stage determining the finalists.
The tournament provides a national platform for state sides and domestic players to build form during the season. Maharashtra enter as defending champions, while Railways, historically the competition’s most successful side, are among the teams seeking another title run.
The field consists of 31 Elite teams and six Plate teams. The Elite division is split into four groups: Groups A, B and C have eight teams each, while Group D has seven. The Plate division forms a separate six-team group.
Elite Group A includes Maharashtra, Assam, Karnataka, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Bengal, Goa and Jammu and Kashmir. Group B comprises Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Baroda, Saurashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana, Andhra and Odisha. Group C features Railways, Tripura, Vidarbha, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Sikkim and Kerala. Group D consists of Delhi, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Uttar Pradesh and Puducherry.
The Plate group contains Bihar, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur. The split gives the six teams a separate league competition while the Elite teams pursue qualification for the Super League.
The league phase is scheduled to begin on October 26 and continue through November 6. Teams in the eight-team Elite groups are scheduled to play seven league matches, while sides in the seven-team group will play six. The top two teams from each Elite group will progress to the Super League, producing an eight-team second phase.
The Super League is scheduled for November 14 to 18. Its teams will be divided into two groups, with the winners of those groups advancing to the Elite final on November 20. The Plate competition follows a separate path, with its league phase scheduled to conclude on November 2 and its final on November 4.
Published tournament previews list 134 T20 matches across the full competition, including league matches, the Super League and the two finals. As schedules can be updated, match-day details should be checked against the latest BCCI fixture list.
The opening day features matches across several centres. Fixtures listed for October 26 include Chandigarh against Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh against Madhya Pradesh, Railways against Tripura and Delhi against Uttarakhand in the morning. Later fixtures include Bengal against Karnataka, Tamil Nadu against Punjab and Jharkhand against Mumbai.
The schedule identifies Surat, Mohali and New Chandigarh, Lucknow and Pune among the main locations for Elite matches. Plate fixtures are scheduled in Sovima, Nagaland, while the knockout phase is set to move to Ahmedabad. The multi-venue format allows the tournament’s league stage to run across several regions at once.
For teams, the first priority is to make a strong start and build enough consistency to finish among the top two in their Elite group. With short-format cricket offering limited time to recover from a defeat, early results can shape the qualification race quickly.
Maharashtra return as defending champions after claiming their first title in the previous edition. Their presence in Elite Group A places them alongside several established state sides, including Bengal and Karnataka. The group-stage format requires each team to sustain performance across multiple fixtures rather than rely on one standout result.
Railways bring a different kind of history. Tournament background reports credit them with a record 11 titles, making them one of the competition’s most decorated teams. Their Elite Group C campaign will include opponents such as Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Gujarat and Kerala.
The Senior Women’s T20 Trophy is also important for the wider domestic game because it gives players regular competition in a national tournament structure. Strong performances can strengthen a player’s case for future opportunities, although selection decisions depend on the relevant selectors and the wider performance picture.
With 37 teams involved and the final scheduled for November 20, the competition will unfold over nearly four weeks. The league stage will establish the Elite contenders, the Super League will narrow the field, and the final will decide the champion of the 2026-27 season.
