India’s Sheetal Devi won the women’s compound individual gold medal in para archery at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games, adding another major result to a campaign that has included record-setting qualification and a medal in the women’s doubles. The individual title came after a series of strong elimination-round performances at the Games in Japan.
Devi’s path to the final included wins over Hong Kong’s Chan Yuen Wah, the Philippines’ Agustina Bantiloc and Japan’s Shinohara Aya. Her semifinal victory over Shinohara was 145-137, securing her place in the gold-medal match on October 22. The Sportstar report identifies her individual gold as the central result of the day.
Devi began the competition with an exceptional qualification round on October 19. World Archery reported that she scored 704 points out of a possible 720, matching the women’s compound world record held by Türkiye’s Oznur Cure Girdi. The result also raised the Asian Para Games record and improved Devi’s own Asian record of 698, set in Bangkok earlier in 2026.
Across her 72 arrows, Devi scored 352 points in each half of the qualification round. The performance earned her the top seed in the women’s compound event and put her in a strong position for the elimination matches. World Archery noted that the record figures remained subject to official ratification.
Devi carried her form into the knockout stages. She defeated Hong Kong’s Chan Yuen Wah 149-134 in the pre-quarterfinals, then beat Agustina Bantiloc of the Philippines 147-135 in the quarterfinals. Her 149-point score against Chan was also reported as a world record in the elimination rounds, surpassing the previous mark of 148 held by Jessica Stretton.
In the semifinal on October 20, Devi faced Japan’s Shinohara Aya and won 145-137. That result guaranteed India a medal in the event and set up the final against Singapore’s Alim Nur Syahidah. The run to the title followed a demanding sequence of matches against archers from across Asia.
Devi entered the 2026 Games as the defending champion in the women’s compound individual event. World Archery’s preview of her campaign noted that she had won the individual and mixed-team titles at the previous Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, along with a silver medal in doubles. Her qualification score in Aichi-Nagoya was a further improvement on the Asian Para Games record of 680 she had established in Hangzhou.
Her success in Japan has also come alongside team competition. On October 21, Devi and Payal Nag won silver in the women’s compound doubles final, losing 141-150 to China’s Xu Xueqing and Zhao Jing. That result made the individual event an important further opportunity for Devi to convert her strong form into gold.
The individual title adds to India’s para-archery results at Aichi-Nagoya and highlights the strength of the country’s athletes across individual and team formats. Compound archery requires consistency across repeated ends, and Devi’s qualification score and elimination-round totals show how she built a strong position before the final.
For Indian para-sport, her performance also provides a visible example of how record-level qualification and pressure in knockout rounds can combine in a major championship. The Asian Para Games continue through October 24, with Indian athletes competing across a broad programme of para-sports.
SportsLine.news will continue to track India’s results at the Games, while official event records remain the reference point for final scores and any subsequent ratification of records. The key verified points in Devi’s campaign are her 704-point qualification, her victories through the elimination bracket and the individual gold reported by Sportstar.
