Essex County Cricket Club have confirmed that Robin Das is no longer under contract with the county side after the English batter of Bangladeshi origin appeared at Inner London Crown Court on October 9, 2026, in connection with two rape charges.

The 24-year-old was granted conditional bail following the hearing, and a five-day trial has been scheduled for January 2028. The allegations remain unresolved, and no finding of guilt is implied.

Essex Confirm Contract Has Ended

In a statement published on October 9, Essex County Cricket Club confirmed that Das was no longer under contract with the team.

The club explained that his playing contract ended before the conclusion of the 2026 season, following his suspension and his resulting unavailability to fulfil his playing obligations.

Essex also stressed that the contract decision was separate from the ongoing legal proceedings. The club said it would not comment further on the circumstances of the case.

The statement also reaffirmed Essex's safeguarding and disciplinary procedures and its commitment to working with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA) and the Cricket Regulator.

Details of the Court Case

According to previously published reports citing the Metropolitan Police, Das was arrested in August 2025 following reports concerning an alleged incident in Brixton, south London, in March 2024. He was charged with two counts of rape in July 2026.

The case proceeded to a further court hearing on October 9, 2026. A five-day trial has been scheduled for January 2028, and Das was released on conditional bail following the hearing.

The charges remain allegations. The outcome of the trial has not been determined, and the case must be reported in accordance with the legal process.

Robin Das's Cricket Career at Essex

Das represented Essex in county cricket after making his debut for the club in 2020. He is an English cricketer of Bangladeshi origin.

His final appearance for Essex came against Middlesex in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup on July 21, 2026. He scored 29 runs in that match, according to published reports.

His departure marks the end of his association with Essex under the contract that concluded before the end of the 2026 season.

What Happens Next?

The next major stage in the legal case is the scheduled five-day trial in January 2028. Until the proceedings conclude, the allegations should not be presented as proven facts.

Essex has confirmed the end of Das's contract while making clear that this decision was separate from the legal proceedings.

SportsLine.news will update this report if significant developments are confirmed by the club, police or the courts.
