India captain Shreyas Iyer said his team failed to execute its bowling plans after West Indies defeated India by 24 runs in the fourth T20 International in Hyderabad on October 14, 2026. The result levelled the five-match series at 2–2 and set up a decisive final match in Bengaluru.
West Indies posted 247/3 in 20 overs, powered by captain Shai Hope’s unbeaten century. India fought back during the chase but were bowled out for 223 in 19.3 overs, falling short of the target of 248.
Speaking after the defeat, Iyer identified line and length as major areas India needed to improve. He said the bowlers had not carried out their plans effectively, allowing West Indies to build a formidable total.
Iyer also acknowledged the challenge of chasing such a large target. While he was encouraged by the intent shown by India’s batters, he felt the bowling performance had put the team in a difficult position before the chase began.
The comments put the spotlight on India’s bowling unit as the team prepares for the series decider. The captain’s message was focused on better execution and approaching the next match with the right mindset.
West Indies captain Shai Hope produced a match-defining innings, scoring an unbeaten 102 off 50 balls. His century helped the visitors finish with 247/3 and gave their bowlers a substantial total to defend.
Sherfane Rutherford also contributed with an aggressive 49 off 26 deliveries, helping West Indies maintain their scoring momentum. The visitors combined power hitting with effective use of the conditions to put India under pressure.
The total proved enough despite India’s determined effort in the chase.
Keemo Paul delivered a decisive spell, taking five wickets as West Indies defended their total. His breakthroughs disrupted India’s pursuit of the target and prevented the home side from sustaining the momentum needed to complete a successful chase.
West Indies also made good use of the pitch as it slowed and offered some assistance to the bowlers. Their execution through the middle overs helped turn a high-scoring contest in the visitors’ favour.
India needed 248 runs to win and finished on 223 all out in 19.3 overs. The team showed attacking intent, but regular wickets and West Indies’ disciplined bowling made the chase increasingly difficult.
India’s score was competitive in isolation, but the visitors’ 247/3 left little margin for error. The defeat means India must win the final match to take the five-match series, while West Indies will have the opportunity to secure a series victory.
West Indies: 247/3 in 20 overs
India: 223 all out in 19.3 overs
Result: West Indies won by 24 runs
Player of the Match: Shai Hope

The fifth T20I is scheduled to be played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on October 17, 2026. With the series tied, the final match will decide whether India or West Indies finish the tour with a series win.
India will need to sharpen its bowling execution and make better use of the opportunities presented during the match. West Indies, meanwhile, will look to build on Hope’s outstanding innings and Paul’s impact with the ball.
