Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has joined Delhi Capitals as the franchise’s Assistant and Batting Coach ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The appointment marks his first formal coaching role and brings him back to the Delhi franchise after an 11-year gap.
Delhi Capitals confirmed the appointment as the team prepares for the upcoming IPL campaign. Yuvraj will work with the coaching staff and contribute to the development of the team’s batting group.
Yuvraj’s appointment represents a new chapter after an international playing career that included major ICC tournament victories with India. The former all-rounder was part of India’s winning campaigns at the 2007 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and the 2011 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
According to Delhi Capitals’ official announcement, Yuvraj has played 304 One-Day Internationals, 40 Tests and 58 T20 Internationals for India. His experience across international cricket and the IPL will now be brought into the franchise’s coaching setup.
Yuvraj has also mentored established and emerging Indian players in recent years. His new role gives him a formal position in an IPL coaching staff for the first time.
Yuvraj’s appointment also marks a return to a franchise he represented in the 2015 IPL season, when the team was known as Delhi Daredevils.
Delhi acquired Yuvraj for ₹16 crore at the 2015 auction, making him the most expensive player in IPL history at that time. He featured in all 14 matches for the franchise that season before being released later in the year.
His return comes as Delhi Capitals reshape their coaching setup ahead of IPL 2027.
Yuvraj’s appointment follows Delhi Capitals’ confirmation that former India captain Sourav Ganguly will serve as the franchise’s head coach for the upcoming IPL season.
The two former India teammates will now work together in the Delhi Capitals setup, bringing their international experience into the team’s preparations. Ganguly’s appointment was announced by the franchise on October 6, 2026.
Yuvraj’s responsibilities as Assistant and Batting Coach place him in a position to support the team’s batting preparation and player development. His international career and previous IPL experience provide relevant perspective as Delhi Capitals prepare for the next season.
The appointment is part of the franchise’s preparations for IPL 2027. The team’s performance will depend on how its players and coaching staff work together throughout the campaign.
