India all-rounder Washington Sundar has expressed his gratitude to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay after receiving a ₹75 lakh cash incentive in recognition of his contribution to India's gold-medal-winning men's cricket campaign at the 2026 Asian Games.

The recognition was presented at a felicitation ceremony in Tamil Nadu, where athletes were honoured for their performances on the international stage. Sundar subsequently shared a message thanking the Chief Minister for the recognition.

Sundar Shares Message of Gratitude

According to Gulf News, Sundar expressed his appreciation after receiving the reward, describing the recognition as a proud moment and a reminder to continue striving for excellence.

The all-rounder thanked the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister for acknowledging his achievement. The message followed a ceremony celebrating the state's athletes and their contributions to Indian sport.

Sundar's recognition reflects the Tamil Nadu government's announced incentive for the cricketer's role in India's Asian Games campaign.

India's Gold Medal Victory Against Pakistan

India secured the men's cricket gold medal by defeating Pakistan by 19 runs in the final. India posted 211 for six before restricting Pakistan to 192 for six.

Sundar delivered an important bowling performance in the title match, taking two wickets for 29 runs in his four overs. His contribution helped India defend its total and finish the tournament with the gold medal.

India's victory also marked a successful defence of the men's cricket title at the Asian Games.

Tamil Nadu Recognises Its Sporting Achievers

The reward for Sundar formed part of a broader recognition programme for athletes associated with Tamil Nadu who achieved success at the Asian Games.

The New Indian Express reported on the felicitation ceremony held by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, where medal-winning athletes received cash incentives based on their achievements.

DT Next had earlier reported the announcement of the ₹75 lakh incentive for Sundar following India's victory in the men's cricket competition.

The recognition highlights the role of state-level support in celebrating athletes who represent India in major international competitions.

What Happens Next for Washington Sundar?

Sundar will continue to focus on his cricketing commitments following the Asian Games campaign. His value to India comes from his ability to contribute as both a batter and an off-spin bowler.

His Asian Games performance and the subsequent state recognition have brought additional attention to his contribution to India's successful title defence.
