Urs met McIlroy in New Delhi on October 14, before the tournament began. According to reports, the pair spoke on the putting green and walked several holes together. Urs said she had followed McIlroy’s career for years and had drawn inspiration from his comeback at the 2025 Masters during her own difficult moment in the Asian Games final round.
Urs had seen her three-shot advantage disappear after a triple bogey on the third hole of the final round. She recalled thinking about how McIlroy recovered from an early setback to win the Masters, using that example to steady herself as she continued her round.
McIlroy praised the Indian golfer for recovering from the early mistake and going on to win the Asian Games gold medal. He described the achievement as impressive and said it was a pleasure to meet her. Urs made history by becoming the first Indian golfer to win an individual gold medal at the Asian Games.
She also contributed to India’s silver medal in the women’s team golf event. Her Asian Games performance has placed her among the Indian golfers attracting attention as the DP World India Championship brings international stars to Delhi.
McIlroy was in India for the DP World India Championship, held at Delhi Golf Club from October 15 to 18, 2026. The tournament features leading players from the DP World Tour, including defending champion Tommy Fleetwood. The meeting between McIlroy and Urs added a personal story to the build-up around the event.
