Marco Bezzecchi claimed victory at the 2026 Indonesian MotoGP Grand Prix on Sunday, October 11, delivering a strong performance for Aprilia at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit in Indonesia.
The Italian rider overtook Trackhouse Aprilia's Raul Fernandez with nine laps remaining in the 27-lap race and gradually pulled clear to secure the win. Fernandez, who had started from pole position despite suffering a fractured index finger in Saturday's sprint, finished second, while Bezzecchi's Aprilia teammate Jorge Martin took third place.
Martin's podium finish proved particularly important in the championship battle. He moved back to the top of the riders' standings, edging ahead of reigning champion Marc Marquez, who finished sixth for Ducati.
Fernandez made a strong start from pole position and remained at the front during the early stages. Bezzecchi stayed close, allowing the two Aprilia-powered machines to establish an advantage over much of the chasing field.
Fernandez eventually began to lose ground, giving Bezzecchi the opportunity to attack. The Italian made his decisive move with nine laps left and took control of the race.
Once in front, Bezzecchi increased his advantage and managed the closing stages to cross the finish line first. The result marked an important return to the top step of the MotoGP podium for the Aprilia Racing rider.
The victory also highlighted Bezzecchi's ability to recover from the dramatic events of Saturday's sprint, when he and Fernandez were involved in a first-lap incident.
Fernandez produced an impressive performance to finish second after a difficult weekend. The Trackhouse rider had secured his first MotoGP pole position but sustained a fractured index finger in a crash during the sprint race on Saturday.
Despite the injury, Fernandez remained competitive throughout much of Sunday's Grand Prix and challenged Bezzecchi for the lead. He ultimately had to settle for second, but his performance underlined his pace at Mandalika.
The race followed a tense sprint encounter between the two riders, making their battle for the Grand Prix victory an important storyline of the Indonesian weekend.
Jorge Martin's third-place finish carried major championship implications. The Aprilia rider moved back into first place in the 2026 MotoGP standings, overtaking Marc Marquez after the Spaniard finished sixth.
According to Reuters' post-race report, Martin moved to 355 points, while Marquez remained on 353. The margin leaves the championship fight finely balanced as the season continues.
Martin worked his way forward after a difficult start and secured valuable points without matching the pace of the leading pair. His result demonstrated the importance of consistency in a closely contested title race.
The Indonesian Grand Prix proved an exceptional result for Aprilia. Bezzecchi won, Fernandez finished second for Trackhouse Aprilia, Martin placed third for Aprilia Racing, and Ai Ogura completed the top four.
Pedro Acosta finished fifth for KTM, while Marquez took sixth place on the factory Ducati. The result gave Aprilia a commanding presence at the front of the field and added another significant moment to its 2026 campaign.
Marquez entered Sunday's race after winning the Indonesian sprint on Saturday, a result that had moved him into the championship lead. However, he could not reproduce that success over the full Grand Prix distance and finished sixth.
That result allowed Martin to move ahead of him in the standings by two points. With the championship battle so close, every Grand Prix finish could prove decisive as the riders approach the closing rounds of the season.
Bezzecchi's victory strengthened his position among the leading contenders, while Martin's podium finish gave him the championship advantage once again. Marquez, meanwhile, will be looking to respond after losing the lead just a day after taking sprint honours.
The Mandalika race also showcased Aprilia's strength, with its riders taking all four leading positions. The combination of Bezzecchi's race-winning pace and Martin's valuable points made Sunday a major success for the manufacturer.
With the championship separated by only two points at the top, the Indonesian Grand Prix has added fresh intensity to the 2026 MotoGP title contest.
