Pakistan women’s cricket captain Fatima Sana has signed with Perth Scorchers for the 2026 Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), securing her first opportunity to feature in Australia’s premier women’s T20 franchise competition.
The 24-year-old all-rounder has agreed to a one-year deal with the Scorchers for WBBL|12. The club confirmed that she will be available for the first eight matches of the season, bringing international leadership, pace bowling and lower-order batting to the Perth side.
Sana has established herself as one of Pakistan’s leading all-rounders, representing her country in both ODI and T20 international cricket and captaining the national side in both formats.
Her ability to contribute with the bat and ball makes her a valuable addition to the Scorchers’ squad. The right-arm pace bowler can generate movement, while her aggressive batting provides another option in the middle and lower order.
Sana said she was excited to finally become part of the WBBL after following the competition from Pakistan.
“ This really is a dream come true,” Sana said in the Perth Scorchers’ announcement, describing the opportunity to represent the club and play at the WACA Ground as a special moment in her career.
Sana arrives in Australia after an impressive year in the shortest format of the game.
In May 2026, she made history by scoring a half-century off just 15 balls against Zimbabwe in a women’s T20 international, setting a new record for the fastest fifty in the format.
Her all-round performances have also strengthened her reputation as a match-winning player for Pakistan. She was among the standout performers at the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup, taking 11 wickets and earning a place in the team of the tournament, according to cricket.com.au.
Sana also became the first Pakistani woman to feature in England’s The Hundred competition, representing Birmingham Phoenix earlier in 2026.
Sana’s signing carries added significance for Pakistan women’s cricket. She is set to become only the second Pakistani woman to play in the WBBL, following former Pakistan captain Nida Dar, who represented Sydney Thunder during the 2019 season.
Her move provides another opportunity for a Pakistani international to showcase her skills in a major overseas franchise competition and gain experience alongside leading players from Australia and other cricketing nations.
Perth Scorchers have assembled a squad featuring international experience and established Australian talent.
Sana joins New Zealand all-rounder Sophie Devine and England all-rounder Freya Kemp among the club’s overseas options. Australian stars Beth Mooney and Alana King also feature in the squad.
The Scorchers are scheduled to open their WBBL|12 campaign against Melbourne Renegades at the WACA Ground on October 31, 2026.
Sana’s availability for the opening eight games gives Perth a significant option during the first phase of the competition. Any extension beyond that period would depend on the relevant arrangements and Pakistan Cricket Board commitments.
